Looking at Celtics' assets compared to other conference finalists

Share

Nobody thinks the Celtics are the best of the four conference finalists this season.

Yet in a matter of weeks, the NBA season will be over and three of those teams will be left to pick up the pieces.

Multiple teams -- let’s call them, oh, the Cavaliers and Warriors -- already have championship rosters built. Roster construction won’t be the task for them that it will be for every other team in the league. As the league goes about that process, perhaps no team has more to work with than Boston. With Markelle Fultz (or a major trade asset) potentially now on the way, the Celtics certainly stand out among the NBA’s final four teams.

Roster age this season:

Boston: 25.6 (fourth-youngest)
Golden State: 28.1
San Antonio: 29.1
Cleveland: 29.9

Committed salary for 2017-18:

Boston: $70.4 million
Golden St.: $92.9 million (assuming Durant opts in)
San Antonio: $93 (excluding a potential Pao Gasol opt-in for $16.1 million)
Cleveland: $125.2 million

First-round picks next three seasons:
