Report: Clippers interested in trading for Garnett

Share

As is the case in many Celtics games, Kevin Garnett exchanged some heated words with different members of the Clippers during Boston's 106-104 win on Sunday. He went nose to nose with Lamar Odom; he wrestled with Blake Griffin; he bumped Matt Barnes and directed a little trash talk his way.

OK, now ready for a laugh? According to a report, the Clippers front office is interested in making Garnett teammates with all of those guys.

Sean Devaney of The Sporting News reported on Sunday that the Clippers have contacted the Celtics about trading for Garnett. The deal, according to Devaney, would bring forward Caron Butler and guard Eric Bledsoe to the Celtics.

The Clippers have athletic big men on their roster, including Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, but Garnett would give the team a defensive presence and a veteran leader with an NBA title on his resume.

The more curious part of this trade rumor is Bledsoe's inclusion. The second-year man out of Kentucky is one of the best backup point guards in the league, averaging 9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3 assists per game in about 21 minutes per game. With Clippers star point guard Chris Paul banged up (he sat out of Sunday's game with a knee injury) the team has relied more on Bledsoe to play the role of distributor.

In order for any trade involving Garnett to go through, he would have to waive his no-trade clause with the Celtics.

Garnett owns a home in Malibu, California.
