Report: Jamal Crawford would consider Celtics if bought out

Jamal Crawford is eyeing the Boston Celtics, among other teams.

The Atlanta Hawks and Crawford are discussing a buyout, according to Hoops Hype's Alex Kennedy. If that transaction goes through, a number of teams will jump into the mix. But Crawford would consider joining the Celtics, according to Basketball Insiders' Michael Scotto.

Crawford, 37, played a complete 2016-17 season with the Clippers, where he averaged 12.3 points, 2.6 assists and 1.6 rebounds in 26.3 minutes. He shot 40.4 percent from the field and 36 percent from behind the 3-point line. He joined the Hawks on Tuesday in a three-team trade involving Paul Millsap.

The Celtics, however, are already clearing cap space for their latest signing in Gordon Hayward, who is expected to eventually join Boston on a four-year, $128 million contract. Once they clear additional space -- possibly by completing a sign-and-trade which would send Jae Crowder to Utah -- they won't have a lot of spending power. They will also have a great deal of depth at the guard position with Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley, Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier.
