Boston College defeats Yale in Women's NIT, 85-61

NEW HAVEN, Conn.Senior guard Jaclyn Thoman scored a game-high 23 points to lead Boston College to an 85-61 win over Yale Thursday night in the first round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament.

Boston College senior forward Stefanie Murphy scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while freshman guard Kristen Doherty added 11 points and five rebounds. Yale held Carloyn Swords to just nine points, well short of her 17.6 ppg. average, but she was still a force in the paint, grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds in only 20 minutes of action.

The game was Yale's first postseason tournament appearance since 1979

Boston College will advance to the second round to play St. Joseph's, which defeated Virginia Commonwealth, 72-66, to advance.
