J.D Martinez got his first hit in a Boston Red Sox uniform ... and his second ... and his third.

Martinez was 3 for 3 with an RBI in his second spring training game with the Sox when Boston tied the Tampa Bay Rays, 6-6, in the Grapefruit League on Thursday.

"It's a good sign for me to be making contact right now," Martinez said after the game, via MLB.com. "So I'm happy with that. To be able to hit it that way is obviously a plus. So definitely happy about it."

The perfromance drew a lofty comparison from Sox manager Alex Cora.

"Manny," Cora said. "And I know people go crazy, 'Oh, he's Manny Ramirez.' But he can hit for average and he can do that [go the opposite way]. There's certain situations we know he's going to hit the ball out of the ballpark, but he's going to be able to get on base and hit for average, and that's key."
