Ex-Red Sox reliever Mike Tlmlin was among the 22,000 in the crowd in Las Vegas when a gunman opened fire and killed 58 people in the worst mass shooting in US history Sunday night.

Timlin tweeted that all in his party at the Route 91 Harvest Festival outside the Mandalay Bay resort in Las Vegas were OK. He also tweeted a photo from the concert before the shooting.

The shooter, identified as  Stephen Paddock, 64, from Mesquite, Nevada, opened fire on concert goers below from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel. More than 500 people were wounded or injured in the chaos.

Timlin, who had an 18-year career as a major league pitcher, was part of World Series champions with the Red Sox in 2004 and 2007. He's an avid hunter and said he's accustomed to the sound of gunfire.

“Dude have heard gun fire before,” Timlin wrote. “I know it is different when coming at you. That is some scary s–t.”

Boston Herald sports columnist Steve Buckley reached Timlin by phone this morning, but he declined to comment.
