BALTIMORE -- The Red Sox' string of dominant starts couldn't last forever, and indeed, it came to a sudden halt Tuesday night. When it did, the five-game winning streak ended with it.

Clay Buchholz gave up a career high 12 hits, and, critically, three sacrifice flies as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Red Sox, 4-1.

The Orioles, who entered with a three-game losing streak, had baserunners from the beginning. Though he worked into the seventh, Buchholz didn't have a single 1-2-3 inning.

The Red Sox had just six hits but again failed to take advantage of their few opportunities. They stranded eight and didn't have a hit with men in scoring position.

Their lone run came in the fourth when Dustin Pedroia singled up the middle, took second on a comebacker, stole third and rode home on David Ortiz's sacrifice fly.

They wasted a second-and-third, two-out chance in the fifth and couldn't capitalize on Adrian Gonzalez's leadoff double in the eighth.
