Calling it the “best case scenario,” John Farrell told reporters in Fort Myers Friday that David Price will not require surgery on his sore left elbow.
Price was in Indianapolis visiting with Dr. James Andrew, but he tweeted following the meeting that he was headed back to spring training.
Farrell said that the team will shut down Price for seven to 10 days of rest and rehab before the team re-evaluates.
Price is entering the second year of a seven-year, $217 million contract with an opt-out clause that would let him become a free agent after the 2018 season.
In his first season with the Red Sox, Price posted a 3.99 ERA with 228 strikeouts over 230 innings.
