Leiter: ‘You're not going to have a manager that's gonna be more prepared'

Al Leiter, current MLB analyst and former player, joined SportsNet Central to discuss his experiences playing under new Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine.

Leiter sung high praises for his former manager.

"I enjoyed my time with Bobby. I think there's a lot of reasons why both sides of the ledger here can give reasons why they like it or not. I can tell you as a starting pitcher that was on his staff, he allowed me to pitch, he left me alone, I knew my routine. Yes, does he like to cover a lot? Yes, he's involved in every aspect of the coaching staff and the managing, but I always thought when I looked at the end of the dugout, when Bobby Valentine was my manager, there were certain guys where you looked down and say 'do I have a guy that knows what he's doing, is he in charge and does he have it covered?' And Bobby does.

"You're not going to have a manager that's gonna be more prepared and knows baseball -- x's and o's -- and the baseball IQ better than Bobby."
