In a totally expected move that’s been announced and celebrated time and again, David Ortiz has retired.

It’s been known since last November -- when he announced it -- and then after the recently concluded 2016 season -- when he actually did it -- and now it’s official. As posted on the MLB transaction’s page on the league’s website, Ortiz’ retirement went through on Tuesday, ending the longtime Red Sox DH’s career after 20 seasons between Minnesota and Boston.

The transactions log can be seen below. Ortiz’ career ends with him having hit .286/.380/.552 with 541 homers and 1768 RBI. He also hit 17 home runs in 85 playoff games, with five homers apiece in the 2004 and 2013 postseasons.
