Magadan to return as Red Sox hitting coach

Dave Magadan will reprise his role as Red Sox hitting coach for the upcoming season. Rob Bradford of WEEI writes that Magadan was contacted by Bobby Valentine Friday morning about retaining the position he's held since 2007.

"I think we have a really good thing going," Magadan told Bradford. "For the first time since I've been there, last year we finished near the top of almost every category. It was good to get a vote of confidence from the front office, and Bobby concurring with the way they felt."

"I think in the back of my mind I always felt like I was coming back," he said. "I hated what happened to Terry. We all felt like we had a hand in what went on last year. I've made a home up there. I've got a house, my daughter goes to school up there during the season, my wife is from up there. It was always my first choice to come back."

During Magadan's tenure as hitting coach the Sox have held one of the American League's top two spots in runs per game, batting average, OBP, slugging percentage, and OPS.
