Pedroia hits DL; Ciriaco called up

Bobby Valentine made the news official earlier today on WEEI: Dustin Pedroia is hitting the DL.

Pedroia has been dealing with an injured right thumb for quite some time, and has re-injured it around the area on a couple of occasions.

"We've had a hand issue with Dustin, and it's revolved around the thumb for the good part of the month," Valentine said. "This is not related to the other injury, but it's a disabling situation so he's going to take the 15 days, and four of those days thankfully are All-Star break days, to try to get better and come back to us healthy and ready to go."

Rich Levine has his take on the move to put Pedroia on the DL on his Standing Room Only blog.

The Red Sox called up Pedro Ciriaco from Pawtucket and moved Rich Hill to the 60-day DL to make room for the move.
