CHICAGO -- Jon Lester picked a bad time to have a bad start.

Bidding to become the first Red Sox lefty in 57 years to win 20 games in a season, Lester was shelled for eight runs in just over four innings as the Chicago White Sox dealt the Red Sox their third straight loss, 8-2.

After a two-run homer from catcher Victor Martinez in the top of the third, Lester had a 2-1 lead. But he allowed a run-scoring single to Andruw Jones in the third, a grand slam to Paul Konerko in the fourth, and a two-run shot to Dayan Viciedo in the fifth to end his chance.

The eight runs allowed by Lester equaled the number of runs he had allowed in his six previous starts combined. His season will end at 19-9 with an ERA of 3.25.

Four Boston relievers combined to pitch scoreless ball over the final four innings.

The game was delayed some 21 minutes in the bottom of the sixth inning when a power outage hit the South Side neighborhood that houses U.S. Cellular Field.
