BALTIMORE -- Another day, another inglorious milestone.

The Red Sox absorbed another loss Sunday -- 6-3 to the upstart Baltimore Orioles -- and thus recorded their 90th loss of the season, reaching that plateau for the first time since 1966, 46 ago.

Zach Stewart, getting his second start of the season, was rocked for five runs on seven hits in just 2 23 innings of work. In two starts for the Sox this year -- the other came Aug. 29 against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim -- Stewart has pitched a combined 5 23 innings and allowed 17 hits and a staggering 14 earned runs.

He yielded a leadoff homer to Nate McLouth and two more runs in the first. When he gave up a solo homer to J.J Hardy and two more singles resulting in another run in the third, he was pulled.

Three Red Sox relievers combined to go the rest of the way and allowed just one run, but the early-inning damage against Stewart proved too much to overcome.

All three of the Red Sox runs came on homers. Cody Ross hit No. 22 to lead off the fourth. After Ryan Lavarnway singles with one out in the seventh, Daniel Nava hit his fifth of the season.

The loss was the eighth in the last nine games overall for the Sox.
