Red Sox unveil nicknames for Players Weekend jerseys

Share

MLB and the MLB Players Association officially announced "Players Weekend," which will feature players wearing uniforms with self-chosen nicknames on the back.

Along with the rest of the league, the Red Sox unveiled their nicknames on Wednesday. Some, such as Xander Bogaerts' "X", are basic. Others are . . . interesting . . .

We would love to know how Drew Pomeranz earned the nickname "Big Smooth", and how Matt Barnes managed to spell "Barnacles" wrong.

Regardless, those are the names you will see on the back of the Red Sox jerseys when they face host Orioles that weekend.
