Will Sox, Cubs battle over Sveum?

Sort of weird, isn't it? Like taking someone on a date, having a generally good time, then watching her go out with your old friend just a few days later.

That was the Red Sox' dilemma when Dale Sveum -- who, by all accounts, had a strong interview for the vacant managerial job in Boston last week -- popped up in Chicago on Monday. According to Patrick Mooney of CSN Chicago, he certainly said all the right things after a day of interviews with Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer about possibly managing the Cubs.

Speculation in Chicago is that Mike Maddux may be the No. 1 choice, though Maddux' citation of "family considerations" for not wanting to move to Boston may preclude a jump to the Cubs, as well. (A specific red flag for Theo and Co.: Maddux saying how happy he was that his wife and daughters were living in the same state -- Texas -- for the first time in years.) If he drops out of the running for the Cubs job, too, will this be a Boston-Chicago battle for Dale Sveum?

Stay tuned.
