Brady restructures contract, creates 7 million in cap room

Tom Brady does whatever he can to help the Patriots win on the field.

But even in the offseason he's doing things to improve his team's chances.

Brady restructured his contract with the Pats last week to provide more than 7 million in cap room for the upcoming season, Brian McIntyre reports.

The Patriots have been pretty busy so far this offseason with a number of signings (although they didn't break the bank for anyone). They were well under the cap going into the offseason, too.

McIntyre reports, "Under the restructure, Brady's base salary was reduced to a fully guaranteed 950,000, with the leftover amount (4.8 million) combined with the roster bonus and converted into a 10.8 million signing bonus that will be prorated over the three remaining years on Brady's contract."

Get all that? No? Just know that Brady saved the Pats some money this season, with that money saved being moved into bonuses, which will count against the cap in future years.
