Bakos done at Bruins camp with lower body injury

BRIGHTON, Mass. - Martin Bakos was a bit of a wild card addition to Bruins training camp after getting signed as a free agent from Europe, and it looks like for now at least it’s not going to work out in Boston’s favor to start the season.

Bakos, 28, was signed by the Black and Gold to a two-way, one-year contract in the middle of June, and had 14 goals and 40 points in 52 games playing in the Czech hockey league last season. He arrived in Bruins camp after clearly looking more development than the young B’s prospects at development camp, and played in a couple of preseason games with the Bruins before suffering the lower body injury.

Bruce Cassidy confirmed that Bakos is finished for the rest of camp due to the injury, and it looks like he’ll be starting the season in Providence when he is healthy enough to play after an undistinguished camp. It sounded, though, like the injury is going to be a substantial one for the new B’s forward.

“He got hurt the other night and we’ll have an update in a couple of weeks,” said Bakos. “He’s done for camp, unfortunately.”

Bakos was a veteran candidate for a winger spot with the plethora of young B’s wingers also in the mix, but the strong performances of youngsters like Danton Heinen and Ryan Donato would have made it difficult for the European skater to make the team anyway.

In other injury news, Ryan Fitzgerald (lower body) and Jakub Zboril (upper body) are skating on their own while working from injuries, Noel Acciari (sports hernia surgery) and Torey Krug (fractured ankle) could potentially play Wednesday night vs. Detroit after taking an off-day today and the Bruins are hoping that Sean Kuraly (lower body) will be able to skate in the next couple of days. Patrice Bergeron (back spasms/groin surgery) also skated again prior to Monday’s practice, but has yet to rejoin the main group.
