Bruins veteran David Backes discusses return to St. Louis and new linemate Charlie Coyle

From 2006 to 2016, David Backes played 727 games for the St. Louis Blues. A majority of those, of course, were played in St. Louis. Now, he is returning to what's now known as the Enterprise Center for just the second time as a member of the visiting Boston Bruins.

Ahead of the Saturday afternoon game against the Blues, Backes, in this Bruins video, spoke about what it means to return to the city he was a part of for so long:

The feeling in the city, it feels like I’ve been here before. A little different locker room, shooting on the other end a few times, but yeah. It’s special to be back and I’m looking forward to playing my second game here as a visitor.

Backes has three career goals in just four games against the Blues, but St. Louis is one of two teams he has never logged an assist against (the other being the Vegas Golden Knights).

Backes also discussed the Bruins’ addition of Charlie Coyle. The Bruins traded for Coyle on Wednesday and confirmed Friday that he would be the team’s third-line center. Backes expressed some excitement about the possibility of playing with his newest linemate.

[Coyle’s] a great skater, he’s moving, he’s pushing the pace. He creates time and space for the other guys out there with him and that’s a good quality to have. He’s pretty reserved and a little quiet, so maybe we’ll get him to use his outside voice out there and communicate. That will only help us to gain some chemistry and make some plays and score some goals.

Backes gets that chance Saturday afternoon as the Bruins look to extend their winning streak to eight games.
