Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy announced this afternoon that veteran winger David Backes will be a healthy scratch for Saturday night's contest in Los Angeles, meaning Providence call-up Karson Kuhlman will make his NHL debut against the Kings:

The 23-year-old former Minnesota-Duluth captain was called up from the P-Bruins on Wednesday. In 50 games for the Bruins' AHL affiliate he had 12 goals and 13 assists for 25 points, with a plus-22 rating. He'd been especially hot over the last two months, with nine goals in his last 20 games and demonstrating strong two-way play.
