Morning Skate: Debrincat tearing it up for Blackhawks

Share

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading while Rotten Tomatoes is also holding an embargo on my ratings until opening night.

*Good piece from FOH (Friend of Haggs) Tracey Myers out in Chicago on Blackhawks rookie Alex Debrincat, who is beginning to tear things up for the Hawks. Debrincat, as you may recall, was an explosive, undersized 5-foot-7, 165-pound player that the Bruins passed up in the draft a couple of years ago when they instead selected big, solid center Trent Frederic. Certainly Frederic is also developing and playing well at the University of Wisconsin, but do you think the Bruins could use a player like Debrincat right now after putting up four goals and five points in his last five games? In all DeBrincat has six goals and 11 points in 18 games, and has been pretty darn good for the Blackhawks.

*Some interesting info nuggets from the Prime Time Sports Conference and a story from Brian Burke about his pre-draft interview with Jaromir Jagr way back when prior to the Jagr doing his Hall of Fame thing in the NHL.

*I had no idea about NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman’s strong connection to Hockey Fights Cancer, so I found this NHL Network interview very touching.

*FOH (Friend of Haggs) James Mirtle has some information on the Maple Leafs shooting from closer to the net than anybody else in the NHL.

*Looks like Bruins goaltending prospect Daniel Vladar is having a pretty good stretch down in the ECHL with the Atlanta Gladiators.

*Kevin Shattenkirk is beginning to find his groove with the New York Rangers after a bit of a transition period.

*For something completely different: Sounds like a number of celebrities and royalty made cameos as Stormtroopers in the new Star Wars movie.
