Morning Skate: Phil Kessel still doing his own thing in Pittsburgh

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading while being glad I didn’t watch much of the Patriots game yesterday. Yikes.

*Phil Kessel is a unique bird in the world of the NHL, according to this profile of him on Sportsnet. Yes, Kessel is definitely unique as far as hockey players go. You could tell that all the way back to his first few years in Boston when he really didn’t mix well with the established veteran group that went on to win the Cup in 2011, but the dude can certainly put the biscuit in the basket when he wants to. And he can be as unconventional as he wants to be as long as he keeps doing that.

*Cool gesture from the Bruins signing a former KHL Kunlun goaltender to a PTO so he can practice with the B’s for the rest of the China trip.

*Interesting move by the Florida Panthers to make a change with the guy wearing the ‘C’ and give it young Aleksander Barkov. He’s definitely a deserving player and a good, young leader in the room, so we’ll see how it plays out this season for the Panthers.

*Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion faces the radio media and talks about the timeline with the decision to trade Erik Karlsson.

*Interesting how rumors get started quickly about dressing room strife in NHL dressing rooms. Jack Eichel was quick to pour cold water on any rumors that he didn’t get along with Ryan O’Reilly over the last few years in Buffalo.

*For something completely different: Oh boy, Samsung Galaxy phones are starting to catch on fire again.
