Morning Skate: Proposals for new NHL awards

Share

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading while the month of March is here in the NHL regular season. How crazy is that?

*Some modest proposals for new NHL Awards, including the Bobby Orr Trophy for the highest-scoring defenseman. That one has been a hope for quite some time, but it remains to be seen if the NHL is going to change the longstanding status quo.

*NHL Network host Jackie Redmond shared her thoughts on what Eastern Conference team’s playoff hopes have taken the biggest hit over the last couple of days, and what that potentially means.

*Vancouver Canucks rookie forward Brock Boeser suffered an injury in a nasty collision, but the good news is that he’ll be okay in 4-6 weeks.

*Things just continue to go bad for the Montreal Canadiens with Max Pacioretty and Victor Mete injured and out for a while.

*Mike Sullivan let Kris Letang play through his struggles during the season, and it’s paying big dividends now for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

*The Staal brothers prepare to meet up and play against each other as the game of hockey has taken their minds away from terrible recent tragedy in the family.

*For something completely different: A really interesting perspective on Kevin Love and that everybody is going through something in this life.
