The Bradley Beal pipe dream has officially ended.
The All-Star guard has agreed to a two-year, $72 million contract extension with the Washington Wizards, his agent confirmed to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Thursday morning.
Beal's extension, which begins in the 2021-22 season and includes a player option for 2022-23, makes him ineligible to be traded until after the 2019-20 season.
The Boston Celtics were among several teams rumored to interested in Beal last summer and reportedly considered him a "prime" trade target.
The 26-year-old was entering the second-to-last year on his contract for a Wizards team stuck in NBA purgatory, so teams were hopeful Washington would deal Beal to kick-start a rebuild.
Yet Beal seems committed to the Wizards for at least two more seasons, after which he has two options: sign a "supermax" contract with Washington worth $266 million over five years or a four-year, $198 million deal elsewhere.

The Wizards also could trade the two-time All-Star following the 2019-20 season if things go south, although his agent told Wojnarowski that Beal's ideal scenario is to "never leave Washington."
