Celtics players choose official Team USA jersey numbers for FIBA World Cup

Share

It's a near-lock that all four Celtics make the final roster for Team USA at the FIBA World Cup, and it looks like they got new jersey numbers for the upcoming tournament.

As wonderful as their training camp numbers were, international rules only permit players to wear numbers 1-15. Kemba Walker gets to wear his No. 15, the number he wore in college and for much of his NBA career. No. 15 is obviously retired for Tommy Heinsohn in Boston, so he'll wear No. 8 for the Celtics this fall.

Jayson Tatum went with No. 10 after sporting No. 34 during training camp, while Marcus Smart chose Jaylen Brown's No. 7 for himself. Brown took No. 9.

The last members of Team USA to wear these numbers are:

No. 15: Carmelo Anthony
No. 10: Kyrie Irving
No. 7: Kyle Lowry
No. 9: DeMar DeRozan

Team USA's next exhibition is set for August 22 in Australia, against Australia, so there's a good chance you'll see Team Shamrock rocking their new numbers soon.
