Jayson Tatum injury: Celtics star ruled out vs. Magic with shin contusion

Jayson Tatum made an early exit from the Boston Celtics' game against the Orlando Magic on Sunday night with a left shin contusion, and it didn't take long for the team to rule him out for the rest of the contest.

The Celtics forward exited the game early in the first quarter. NBC Sports Boston Celtics insider Chris Forsberg provided some more context in the tweet below:

Tatum is an important player for the Celtics as they prepare for the first round of the 2019 NBA playoffs, which begin Saturday (the Celtics' schedule has not yet been announced, however). The Celtics keeping him out for the rest of Sunday night's matchup could just be a precaution, but we won't know for sure until after the game.

The second-year forward is averaging 15.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game this season.

The Celtics clinched homecourt advantage in Round 1 of the playoffs as a result of the Indiana Pacers' loss to the Brooklyn Nets earlier Sunday.
