Kevin Durant insists Draymond Green incident won't impact free agency

If Kevin Durant leaves the Golden State Warriors next summer, it won't be because Draymond Green told him to.

That's what Durant insisted Tuesday in an interview with Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes, telling Haynes his much-publicized on-court spat with Green last Monday won't factor into his pending free agency decision.

“Nah, (it won’t factor),” Durant said, via Yahoo Sports. “Because at the end of the day, I’m just a ballplayer that’s just trying to be in a great environment to play basketball and groom my skills every day."

Golden State didn't seem like a "great environment" last week when it was reported that Green point-blank told Durant to leave the Warriors during a back-and-forth late in a game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

A teammate who saw the confrontation reportedly said there's "no way" Durant, who is expected to decline his player option for the 2019-20 season and hit free agency, re-signs with the Dubs after the incident.

But the All-Star forward says the whole ordeal was just Draymond being Draymond.

"I never really felt like it was a problem, because I know Dray and he says some crazy (expletive) out his mouth all the time,” Durant said. “But on top of that, it was just that there was so much coming with it from the outside, and so much stuff that we have to answer now.”

Durant is right about that last part: The free agency rumors likely will swirl the rest of the season unless he publicly declares he's staying in Golden State. He has plenty of reported potential destinations, too, including the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and (according to Glen Davis) the Boston Celtics.
