NBA Rumors: DeMarcus Cousins to sit out season restart despite teams' interest

If you believe the Boston Celtics need frontcourt help ahead of the 2019-20 NBA season restart, you may wonder if they would consider signing DeMarcus Cousins.

The Los Angeles Lakers waived Cousins in February, after all, and NBA teams can sign free agents starting at 12 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

So, is Boogie to Boston a possibility? Apparently not, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania, who reports Cousins will sit out the league restart in Orlando, Fla., to focus on rehabbing his torn ACL.

Charania noted that "multiple teams" expressed interest in Cousins, and it's worth wondering whether the Celtics were among them: The Athletic's John Hollinger recently listed Boston as a potential fit for the 29-year-old along with San Antonio and Dallas.

Cousins is a six-time All-Star who's one of the NBA's best centers when healthy. He hasn't been healthy in quite a while, though, appearing in just 30 games total since October 2018 due to debilitating Achilles and knee injuries.

In any case, it appears Cousins is off the table, meaning the Celtics will have to look elsewhere for big man help or roll with their current frontcourt of Daniel Theis, Enes Kanter, Robert Williams III, Grant Williams and Vincent Poirier.

The NBA reportedly may allow two-way players to participate in Orlando, so rookie big man Tacko Fall also could join the team for its playoff push.
