Why Brad Stevens isn't thinking twice about Kyrie Irving-Kevin Durant chatter

Brad Stevens has a lot on his plate right now, and dissecting Kyrie Irving's All-Star Weekend interactions with Kevin Durant isn't one them.

The Boston Celtics coach was asked Wednesday during his interview on 98.5 The Sports Hub whether he's heard any of the chatter surrounding a recent video of Irving talking with Durant that some are convinced is a sign both stars will join the New York Knicks in free agency next season.

"I haven't heard any of the commentary, but I would tell you this: Kyrie and Kevin are good friends," Stevens said. "Just like a lot of guys in the league, people that have grown up playing against each other and with each other and everything else.

"So, I don't even think twice about things like that."

Stevens added he's spoken to Irving about the honor of playing in an All-Star Game, and that the point guard's hard work earns him the right to do whatever he wants while surrounded by the best basketball players on the planet.

"When you're a six-time All-Star by the time you're 26, those things are really hard to achieve," Stevens said. "He has continuously risen his game, and so I think he should go and enjoy that weekend and see old friends and all that stuff. So, I don't even think twice about all that."

The most important moments of All-Star Weekend usually occur off the court, as the NBA's best players often have private discussions about their current situations and how they may or may not want to change them.

Stevens does have experience in that environment, having coached the Eastern Conference during the 2017 All-Star Game, but if he was privy to those conversations, he didn't let on.

"I had a chance to meet with a few people while I was down there in New Orleans and talk hoops and talk leadership and those types of things," Stevens said. " ... (But) I would not know all of the discussions that go on."

That means Stevens won't be telling you what Irving actually said to Durant in that Spectrum Center hallway. Sorry, Celtics fans.
