FOXBORO -- On Monday @font-facefont-family: "Times New Roman";p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormalmargin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; font-size: 12pt; font-family: "Times New Roman"; a:link, span.MsoHyperlinkcolor: blue; text-decoration: underline; a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowedcolor: purple; text-decoration: underline; table.MsoNormalTablefont-size: 10pt; font-family: "Times New Roman"; div.Section1page: Section1; Randy Moss agent announced his client was retiring. But Moss never officially made a statement himself. Consequently, whenasked about the news on Tuesday, Patriots coach Bill Belichick reacted as if hewasnt completely buying it until he heard the announcement from Mossmouth.

I think Ive said many times that Randys one of the greatplayers that Ive had the opportunity to coach, said Belichick. But I dontknow that Ive seen him make that announcement. Maybe I missed it.

Belichick then asked the media, Has Randy been quoted onthat?

When he was told that only Moss agent confirmed theretirement, Belichick said, I dont want to speak for Randy. Of course I thinkhe was a great player. I think that will be recognized in time, at some point,of really how exceptional of a player he was. He made a lot of contributions toour football team during the time he was here. I enjoyed coaching him, and Ienjoyed our relationship, off the field as well as on the field.

As to reports that New England offered Moss a one-year deal? No comment there, either.

No surprise.
