Cooks OK with No. 14, never bothered to ask Garoppolo for No. 10

FOXBORO -- Brandin Cooks was No. 10 for his first three years in New Orleans. Now that he's with the Patriots, he'll be No. 14.

He seems to be just fine with the new digits.

"No big significance at all, really," he said. "I was No. 7 in college so the way I look at it is double No. 7."

Did he want No. 10, though? Did he try to pry it away from Jimmy Garoppolo with an offer, which happens relatively frequently this time of year in NFL locker rooms?

"I didn't even try," Cooks said with a smile. "I didn't even think about asking him. New jersey, new opportunity. I wanted something different."

Cooks joins a group of former No. 14s in New England that includes Patriots Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Grogan, backup quarterback Vinny Testaverde, punter Zoltan Mesko, and receivers Chris Harper, Michael Floyd and Griff Whalen.
