There are some corners of Patriots Nation actually happy that Tom Brady decided to accept his four-game suspension because (their words) "now we get to see what Jimmy Garoppolo can do." Certainly there's a widespread expectation that the Pats won't miss much of a beat with Jimmy G. under center, even while acknowledging that he's not at Brady's level.
And Tom E. Curran thinks that's (his word) "foolhardy".
"Understand this," Curran said Monday night on Quick Slants. "The pressure that [Garoppolo's] going to be under and the inexperience that he has, combined, makes all those expectations of great success a little bit overinflated . . .
"[To] think that Jimmy Garoppolo [is] going to come in and just magically play at the same level that Tom Brady did, or even approach it, to me is foolhardy. The reason: He hasn't been game-planned for, he has no idea of what the pressure is going to be like . . . I look at this and say: 'You gotta slow it down.' "
