Curran's Dallas Diary: Party time

DALLAS - Thursday of Super Bowl week is when the whole city starts to really transform. Since Sunday, pretty much everyone here has been working. On Thursday, though, the parties start. The high rollers wheel into town. Current and former players with their standard-issue entourages show up, heads swiveling, looking over the peons for those who really matter. And if they have to hit the brakes in the middle of pedestrian foot traffic, they'll do that. With pleasure.
It's funny, because by now all of us who've been here a few days are pretty much creatures of habit. Now the Sheraton in Downtown Dallas - already pretty packed - is under siege by swaggering packs of testosterone and "Wooooo"ing hordes of big haired estrogen. It's like living on the Cape. Sunday through Wednesday was January through May. Memorial Day just hit and the place is awash with people trying to have a good time while I'm trying to work over here! And the place just stinks like drinking humans. I realized today I've left the hotel exactly once for a non-work related event. (I have to go to the Arlington Conference Center every day about 4, which is not a bad ride). I went to the media party on Tuesday night at the House of Blues. Since then? Haven't ventured out. The cold and the cabbie strike in town have pretty much convinced me that the irritation of trying to get somewhere isn't going to counterbalance the fun. Besides . . . I'm trying to work over here!Tom E. Curran canbe reached at tcurran@comcastsportsnet.com.Follow Tom on Twitter at http:twitter.comtomecurran
