FOXBOROJulian Edelman understands the Patriots way of doing things. But this is the NFL; it's a business. And every day is another chance to better secure a spot, or see it slip away.

So as the New England receivers slowly but surely start to gel, Edelman understands he has to make the most of every opportunity to shine.

When asked about the receivers as a group, Edelman said, "I'm a little bit more worried about myself right now; just trying to improve myself so I can help contribute to the team."

Last season, Edelman had seven catches for 86 yards. His greatest impact came as a punt returner where he averaged a franchise-best 15.3 yards per return which led the AFC and was second in the NFL to Chicago's Devin Hester (17.1 yards per return average).

The former seventh round pick, who has one catch in the preseason, has every intention on working his way into a more prominent role this season, preferably in the passing game.

And the easiest way to do that?

"Just take the coaching, and do what they tell me to do," he said.
