FOXBORO -- Jimmy Garoppolo left the field in obvious pain during the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Dolphins.

GAROPPOLO INJURED: Curran: Now he has something else in common with Romo | Perry: Behind Brissett, there's . . . Edelman?

With just over four minutes remaining in the first half, the Patriots quarterback  rolled to his right, completed a pass to receiver Malcolm Mitchell and then absorbed a big hit from Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso. As the two players headed to the Gillette Stadium turf, Garoppolo landed hard on his throwing shoulder.

After taking a few steps toward the Patriots sideline, Garoppolo dropped to a knee. He was met by team medical personnel and had his right shoulder area examined.

He was removed from the game and headed to the sideline, giving way to backup Jacoby Brissett.

Garoppolo seemed to be in total control of the offense before exiting. He left having completed 18 of his 27 attempts for 234 yards and three touchdowns.
