The Patriots announced on Tuesday that they have installed a shock pad underneath the turf of their practice facility in order to reduce the likelihood of concussions.

From NFL.com:
According to research by BioMechanica, LLC the Brock PowerBase pad reduces the chances of a traumatic brain injury by 50 percent when compared to a typical synthetic turf over a stone base. The Patriots, the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer as well as several youth teams and Patriots Cheerleaders all use the indoor Dana Farber Field-House practice facility.

It's rare to hear about a player suffering a concussion during practice, but it's encouraging an encouraging move by the Patriots nonetheless. Whatever small steps can be taken should be taken to limit football's head-injury epidemic.
