Patriots work out fleet of players on Saturday

It was a busy day for the Patriots on Saturday. In addition to the trade with the Rams for receiver Greg Salas and rounding out their practice squad, the team worked out several young players. The team worked out wide receivers Thomas Mayo and SamKirkland; running backs Kahlil Bell and Josh Vaughan, defensive back Ben Hannula and linebacker Noah Keller. Kirkland, who played at Kent State and had 113 catches there, was with the Redskins in camp. The Patriots added him to their practice squad.

Mayo played at Division II Concord (Pa,) College. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Raiders andwas released five days ago. He had more than 4,000 yards receiving in college.
Bell, 25, started the final two games in 2011 for the Bears. He gained 337 yards on 79 carries for the Bears last year but was released when he refused to take a significant pay cut last week.
Vaughan played 10 games over the past two seasons for the Panthers. Hannula was released by the 49ers after signing with them after impressing during a mini-camp tryout. He has no game experience in the league. Keller was signed by the Rams as an undrafted free agent. He played inside linebacker at Ohio University. The Patriots also had interest in him as a UDFA after the draft.
