As more reports come out saying that the Jets could be close to locking up lockdown cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, the Patriots' most heated division rival made a splash by re-signing one of its own key free agents, Santonio Holmes.

Pro Football Talk is reporting that Holmes has signed a five-year deal with the Jets. He will receive 24 million guaranteed as part of the deal, according to PFT. ESPN is reporting that the deal is worth about 50 million total.

From PFT:

Holmes impact goes beyond the statistics. Hes the one player on the Jets offense that opposing defenses have to game plan against. During Hard Knocks last year, Jets coaches drooled about Holmes, calling him the best player on the teams offense.

More to come. . .
