Report: Patriots have WR Williams in for a workout

The Patriots have already added a bevy of pass-catchers this offseason. Tight end Martellus Bennett headlines a list of newcomers that includes receivers Chris Hogan and Nate Washington as well as tight end Clay Harbor.

Might they be interested in piling up a few more veteran weapons?

According to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, the Patriots had wide receiver Mike Williams and tight end Jeff Cumberland in for workouts on Wednesday.

Williams, taken in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft, last played for the Bills in 2014 after playing for the Buccaneers for the first four seasons of his career. The 6-foot-2, 212-pound wideout recorded 8 receptions for 142 yards and one touchdown in nine games in his one season in Buffalo.

Though the 28-year-old did not see any game action in 2015, his workout in New England went well, per Volin, and the Patriots are contemplating bringing him aboard.

Cumberland was released by the New York Jets this offseason after six seasons with the team. In 2015, the 6-4, 250-pounder had 5 receptions for 77 yards in 15 games.

The Patriots also reportedly had quarterback Ricky Stanzi in for a workout on Wednesday.
