According to ESPN’s Schefter, the Chargers have requested permission to interview Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia about their head-coaching vacancy.

Patricia has been with the Patriots since 2004, joining the team as an offensive coaching assistant in 2004 and serving as assistant offensive line coach before moving to the defensive side of the ball as linebackers coach from 2006 to 2010. He was the team’s safeties coach in 2011 and has been defensive coordinator since 2012.

Now 42, Patricia won Super Bowls with the Patriots in the 2004 and 2014 seasons. He interviewed for the Browns’ head-coaching job last offseason but returned to the Patriots.

Patricia is not the only Patriots’ coach in demand, as Josh McDaniels has a number of interviews scheduled this week. Director of player personnel Nick Caserio has also reportedly drawn interest from the 49ers.
