Revolution midfielder Stephen McCarthy underwent surgery on his left shoulder Monday. He will miss the rest of the season.

The surgery, described by the team as successful, was to repair a labrum in McCarthy's shoulder. He suffered the initial injury on May 21 and subsequently re-injured it three times, most recently in a September 4 training session.

In 21 games, the 23-year-old scored two goals and made an assist. He is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for the 2012 preseason.
