FOXBORO -- The Patriots traded up from the No. 27 overall pick in order to select Syracuse defensive end Chandler Jones with the No. 21 overall pick.

New England sent No. 27 and a third-round pick (No. 93 overall) to the Cincinnati Bengals, in order to move up to No. 21.

Jones is 6-foot-5, 266-pounds. The scouting report on the defensive end says that if he didn't miss five games in 2011 because of a knee injury, he might have competed for the top spot among defensive ends in the 2012 draft class.

He recorded 38 tackles (30 solo) and led Syracuse with 4.5 sacks in just seven games during his senior year in 2011.

More to come . . .
