In reporting the Chiefs' apparent signing of free agent wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin on Friday, ESPN's Adam Schefter noted Kansas City has added "another weapon for the stretch run."
But how much can Benjamin really bring to the AFC's current leader?
The 27-year-old wideout, whom the Buffalo Bills surprisingly released earlier this week, is signing a one-year contract with the Chiefs through the end of the season, according to Schefter.
In theory, Benjamin's addition gives Kansas City a big, physical red zone threat and another offensive option for quarterback Patrick Mahomes to work with in the wake of Kareem Hunt's release.

In reality, though, the former first-round pick hasn't been much of a threat to anyone. Benjamin tallied just 23 catches on 62 targets in 12 games for Buffalo, good for the worst catch rate (37.1 percent) in the NFL among qualified pass-catchers.
Only three of those catches came in the red zone, as Benjamin has just one touchdown on the season and four total TDs over his last two campaigns.

Benjamin obviously could benefit from having Mahomes throwing him passes. But teams like the New England Patriots -- who sit just one game behind Kansas City in the AFC standings with four games to play -- shouldn't be too concerned about Benjamin giving the Chiefs any significant edge down the stretch.
