NFL rumors: Jonathan Jones hit on Josh Allen to be reviewed for fine, not suspension

New England Patriots cornerback Jonathan Jones reportedly is not facing a suspension for his helmet-to-helmet hit that knocked Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen out of Sunday's Week 4 game, but a fine is a possibility.

NFL Media's Tom Pelissero reported an update Monday on where Jones stands with the league regarding further discipline:

Jones was penalized for unnecessary roughness as a result of the hit, but the Patriots didn't lose any field position because of a Bills holding penalty on the play that offset both infractions.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott felt Jones should've been ejected. Bills safety Micah Hyde said if a Buffalo player made the same hit on Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, that player would have been ejected

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick doesn't think Jones could have approached the tackle another way.

"I think, when a player -- when there isn't really much you can tell him to do differently, then I think you don't tell him anything," Belichick said Monday in a conference call with reporters. "I mean, Allen's a big runner; he's a strong guy, hard to tackle. He certainly broke several tackles against us. Jon (Jones) turned when he hit him and didn't lead with his head."

Jones entered Week 4 as the the highest-graded cornerback in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus.
