New England is no stranger to mobile quarterbacks.
Of their 12 games this season, six of them have come against quarterbacks who could be considered "mobile" - players you have to at least keep tabs on or they'll bust out of the pocket and pick up a big chunk of yardage.
So far this season, the Patriots have handled them pretty well.
- Deshaun Watson, Houston (ranked 4th in QB rushing yards): 8 carries, 40 yards
- Blake Bortles, Jacksonville (7th): 6 carries, 35 yards
- Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City (11th): 2 carries, 9 yards
- Mitchell Trubisky, Chicago (5th): 6 carries for 81 yards, 1 touchdown
- Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay (12th): 4 carries, 8 yards
- Marcus Mariota, Tennessee (6th): 2 carries, 21 yards
The totals don't look great, 28 carries for 194 yards and one touchdown, but those are skewed by Trubisky's big day. Take away the Bears quarterback, and New England has allowed 113 yards on 22 carries with no touchdowns.
That being said, Josh Allen may be a whole different beast than the dual threat guys the Pats have faced thus far.
Allen ranks second among quarterbacks in rushing yards, trailing only Ravens QB Lamar Jackson, who is as much a runner as he is a passer. More importantly as it pertains to New England's game plan, Allen leads the NFL in scrambling yards.
The Bills rookie signal caller, who has 506 rushing yards on 75 attempts and six touchdowns, is Buffalo's leading rusher.
New England Patriots
While Allen has been underwhelming as a passer (6 TD, 9 INT, 65.5 passer rating), the Pats have to respect his arm strength. The Wyoming product wowed scouts with 80-yard passes at his pro day.
The Patriots secondary will need to make sure receivers don't get behind them while the linebackers and defensive line work to contain Allen's legs.
