Rondo sports headband for first time this season

BOSTONThere was something about Rajon Rondo during his 14-point, 13-assist performance on Friday against the New Jersey Nets.

Rondo sported a headband, once a staple of his game attire before the NBA enforced a dress code that no longer permitted players to wear them upside down, as Rondo used to do.

I just felt like a change, he explained following the Celtics 107-94 win. Just needed a change tonight. You might not ever see it again. It depends on how Im feeling.

The return of the headband sparked a flurry of conversation on Twitter during the game, with viewers taking note of the addition.

I think its my statement, a signature statement when I won a championship, Rondo said. But who knows. People ask me all the time why I dont wear it anymore. (Jokes) I tried to get a petition but it didnt go through.

Rondo has yet to decide how often he will wear the headband, but after a commanding win, it is tempting to break it out on Sunday against the New York Knicks.

Im 1-0 in a headband this year, he said. So I might try to keep the streak alive on Sunday.
