Top of the morning: Sox get a win in the rain, but lose Beckett

Bob Neumeier recaps a wet night at Fenway, where Josh Beckett avoided being traded by the Red Sox, but not the back spasms that led him to leave the rain-shortened 4-1 victory over the Tigers early.

Earlier in the day, the Sox stood mostly pat at the trade deadline. They made two minor deals: re-acquiring lefty reliever Craig Breslow from the Diamondbacks for righty reliever Matt Albers and outfielder Scott Podsednik.

They also swapped minor league first baseman Lars Anderson for Indians minor league knuckleballer Steven Wright.
