WALTHAMWith the David West trade now dead -- he reportedly signed a 2-year, 20 million deal with the Pacers on Sunday -- the Boston Celtics have no time to mope around and play the "what if" game.
The Celtics have a roster that's solid, but far from what you would consider a bona fide title contender.
For now, the C's will look to make slight modifications with their current core group in hopes that will be enough to keep them among the Eastern Conference's top teams.
Slight modifications like Kevin Garnett potentially moving to center. That particular change is intriguing when you consider how, aside from Dwight Howard, there really isn't a dominant, game-changing player at the center position.
But the Celtics will need to do more than just tweak their current lineup, to have a real shot at bringing home Banner 18 this year.
That's why you can count on the C's continuing to canvass the NBA landscape, looking to wheel and deal their way towards upgrading a roster that is solid but far from spectacular. Short of that, the Celtics will hope that some of their low-budget additions this season, will outperform those contracts.
But that's a gamble that not even Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge, never one to shy away from taking big risks, would be willing to take.
