Childress' connection to Nagy is a strong one, both former Andy Reid assistants in both Philadelphia and Kansas City. Childress directly preceded Nagy as Reid's offensive coordinator with the Chiefs and was the team's assistant head coach under Reid last season as Nagy took over play-calling duties as offensive coordinator. Childress also worked under Reid with the Eagles, spending four seasons there as the offensive coordinator.
Bears fans will remember Childress as the Vikings' former head coach, a job he held for five seasons, from 2006 to 2010. He went 39-35 in the Twin Cities, making two playoff appearances as the head coach of the NFC North champions in 2008 and 2009. The second of those postseason appearances, with Brett Favre at quarterback, ended a game short of the Super Bowl, a loss to the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship Game.
Childress is also a Chicagoland native, a product of Marmion Academy in Aurora and Eastern Illinois. He worked as an Illinois assistant for seven seasons and as a Wisconsin assistant for eight seasons before moving to the NFL.
