Report: Bears hire Mark Helfrich as offensive coordinator

Matt Nagy has filled another vacant position on his coaching staff.

One day after grabbing Notre Dame offensive line coach Harry Hiestand, Nagy and the Bears have reportedly hired former Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich to be the team's next offensive coordinator.

Helfrich went 37-16 in four seasons with the Ducks. He was promoted to head coach in 2013 after four seasons as offensive coordinator under Chip Kelly.

Apparently Helfrich, who was fired in 2016 after going 4-8 in Eugene, also had interest from the University of Arizona.

Nagy may still wind up retaining defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, but he needed to replace Dowell Loggains, who left to join the Miami Dolphins coaching staff last week.
